Hello, my name is Matt King.

I am a technology enthusiast currently working as a Systems Programmer for Tenax Technologies creating .NET/C#/Blazor applications.

My love of application development started in 1984 when I went to computer camp in Cincinnati, OH creating my first applications with BASIC.

After graduating from high school, I did a semester at Xavier University and took a class in PASCAL. After completing the first semester I joined the United States Navy to see the world.

During my 4 years of active duty, I worked as a radar operator, navigation petty officer, and JOTSII/JMCIS/GCCS administrator on the USS Chandler. I also got to visit places such as Acapulco, Mexico; Singapore, Hong Kong, Philippines, Dubai, Bahrain and many others. I thoroughly enjoyed my time but I was ready to get back to civilian life and my next adventures.

Once I completed my 4 years of active duty and seeing so many wonderful places, I continued to serve in the United States Navy Reserve in addition to attending the University of Cincinnati (UC) majoring in Computer Science.

While at the University of Cincinnati I took courses in Fortran, Mathematica, C++, Prolog, LISP and data structures with Mathematica being one of my favorites. After a few years living in Cincinnati I moved to San Antonio, TX.

While in San Antonio, TX I continued to pursue my degree in Computer Science at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) as well as taking some programming courses at San Antonio College (SAC). At UTSA I took courses in Java and data structures and Perl, shell scripting and web development at SAC. In addition, I also worked as a temporary employee for Akin, Gump, Straus, Hauer and Feld LLP, USAA and ERS Group working a lot with Microsoft Access, Oracle and SQL Server. I did all this as well as continuing my service with the United States Navy Reserves.

I was hired permanently by ERS Group in 2000 and moved to Tallahassee, FL where they were headquartered. I attended Tallahassee Community College (TCC) and received my Associates Degree in Computer Programming in 2002. While at TCC I took classes in Oracle PL/SQL, SQL Plus, Visual Basic.NET and Visual Basic for Applications. I also continued with the United States Naval Reserve and did some Information Technology (IT) related tasks for Joint Interagency Task Force East (JIATFE) Key West, FL; and Judge Advocate General (JAG) office for Naval Forces Europe (CNE) in London, UK. I also got married in 2001.

In 2003, my wife and I moved to Tampa, FL where I worked for Hillsborough County Clerk’s office and the City of Tampa. I continued my education at both the University of South Florida (USF) pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology (BSIT) and Hillsborough Community College (HCC) taking classes towards and Associates in Arts and Science in Database Technologies. While attending USF I took classes in Python, C#, ArcGIS, Project Management, Oracle, SQL Server, DOS and networking. While at HCC I took classes in Game Development, Statistics, ActionScript, AutoCAD, MySQL, ASP and PHP.  In 2010, I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology from USF.

I ended up working for the City of Tampa for 17 years with several departments as a Personnel Technician, Transportation Technician, Applications Programmer and Senior Applications Programmer. I become very proficient as an applications developer, web developer, server, database, Mulesoft, SCCM and Genetec administrator. While working at the City of Tampa I worked with C#, .NET, Microsoft Access and Visual Basic for Applications, Crystal Reports, SQL Server (SSMS, SSRS, SSIS, SSAS), Drupal, Windows Servers, Ubuntu, Java, AnyPoint Studio and was considered the PowerShell expert.

I continued in the United States Naval Reserve being recalled doing various task including Systems and Network Administration for Naval Recruiting District (NRD) Miami, database development for Naval Forces Europe (CNE), Naval Forces Africa (CNA) and 6th Fleet (C6F) and Systems and Network administration for the USS Theodore Roosevelt. I retired from the United States Naval Reserve in 2012.

In June 2021, I retired from the City of Tampa and moved to my current location in Clarksville, TN. I currently work as a contractor for Tenax Technologies at Fort Campbell, KY as a Systems Developer creating .NET/C#, Python Django and Red Hat Linux Administrator.

I continue to keep my skills current and updated by taking several classes online via Udemy, Pluralsight, LinkedIn Learning, Coursera and EdX. I also attend regularly SQL Saturday, Code Camps and various meetups both online and in-person. I was also the co-organizer of the Mobile Applications Development (MAD)/Xamarin Tampa Bay user group and did a technical review for the book “Mastering ArcGIS Server Development with JavaScript” by Ken Doman.

I love developing applications and learning different technologies. I’m currently learning more about mobile development with Xamarin (Maui), Flutter/Dart and React as well as Business Intelligence (BI) Development with Power BI and Tableau.
